The Mind Doctors offers accurate and comprehensive ADHD testing for adults and children using the latest diagnostic tools. ADD/ADHD can negatively impact work or school life, causing academic under performance, underemployment, or conflicts at work, school, or with family. Poor time management, procrastination, inability to complete tests on time, and turning assignments/work in late can also occur with ADHD. If a diagnosis of ADHD is warranted you or child may qualify for accommodations like extra test/assignment time, a note taker, a quiet environment, or other accommodations. You could take a quick online test or answer some questions from a busy doctor who quickly prescribes medication but may find that issues continue as many other conditions can have similar symptoms to ADHD. Because of this it is important to get an accurate diagnosis by an expert in ADHD. If you schedule an assessment with Dr. Mitchell at the end of the testing, you will know if you or your child has ADHD or not and be guided towards the appropriate treatment. We not only diagnose ADHD but the goal is to put you or your child on the path to success. Whether you’re considering ADHD testing for yourself or a loved one, it can be life changing. It is the first step in gaining an understanding of yourself or your child, taking control over your life and unlocking you or your child’s full potential. Contact The Mind Doctors today to ask about ADHD or neuropsychological testing.
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Assessment
For adults and young people diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, better known simply as ADHD, struggles to focus, complete tasks, set and achieve goals, and just pay attention during conversations with loved ones can make every day exhausting and frustrating. Conversely, ADHD can lead to hyperfocus, allowing you to get numerous tasks done in a short time, inspire beautiful creative works, and make you more empathetic. ADHD impacts many aspects of daily life but understanding what it is and the impact of this condition empowers people. ADHD assessment provides this understanding and empowerment. What Is ADHD?
ADHD is a disorder that impacts the executive functions, including concentration, task prioritization, and the ability to organize information and remember details. This condition is often diagnosed in childhood or the teen years when difficulty controlling executive functions can lead to behavioral issues and academic struggles. Adults may seek an assessment and ADHD diagnosis in order to improve their ability to perform in their careers, build personal and professional relationships, and generally lead a more fulfilling life. ADHD diagnosis may also reference a specific type in order to help people better understand the impact of their condition. Specifically, ADHD may be typified as inattentive, hyperactive, or combined.
Warning Signs of ADHD
Many young people are referred to me for ADHD assessment by a pediatrician or as part of an educational evaluation. Adults will typically reach out if ADHD symptoms are causing difficulties in one or more areas of their lives. Whatever the age, it’s beneficial to understand warning signs of ADHD, so you know when to reach out for support. The common warning signs of ADHD are:
- Difficulty focusing or concentrating.
- Struggles with academics and learning difficulties, including missing assignments or failure to complete projects.
- Starting multiple tasks but failing to complete any.
- Finding it difficult to sit still or fidgeting with excess energy.
- Struggling with time management.
- Failing to meet commitments.
- Showing up very late or early to events.
- Struggling with impulse control, including interrupting others as they speak or failing to take turns.
- Seeming to ignore people or being easily distracted during conversation.
- Being disorganized.
- Having a difficult time with task management.
- Being easily frustrated or experiencing mood swings.
ADHD Testing
Assessment begins with a clinical interview. This is where I gather information about symptoms clients experience, concerns, referral questions, and other reasons they scheduled ADHD testing. I’ll also gather a complete medical history, review academic records, and gather other information as needed. For younger clients, I’ll likely chat with parents first to get some of these details. Following the clinical interview session, I develop a personalized and thorough battery of tests. Rather than only determining an affirmative diagnosis of ADHD, these assessments are designed to create a complete picture of a person’s strengths and areas of struggle. After administering the tests, I evaluate the results and information I’ve gathered. I write a complete report and provide it to my clients during a final visit. During this session, we review the report in detail. I’ll answer any questions and provide recommended next steps.
